The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a world-renowned place of worship, which is visited by thousands of devotees including locals and foreigners. The former kingdom of Kandy was the final location of the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha, where the Kings preciously guarded in a special Shrine wherever the capital was located in their kingdom. The place is abundant with immense cultural and architectural value. The tranquility inside the great temple, the beautiful architecture and the wooden structural constructions make the place impressive.
The Kandy Lake Club Cultural Dance Show is a proclaim of a glimpse of Sri Lanka’s rich heritage of Arts, Dance and culture which is a must see for any visitor who visits the historic city of Kandy. Starting in 1982, it is the first Cultural Dance Show of its kind to be established in Sri Lanka and has been performing for the last 35 years. Situated in Peradeniya, about 5.5 km from the city of Kandy, is the largest and one of the most attractive botanical gardens in Sri Lanka. It consists of more than 4000 species of plants and is renowned for its selection of orchids, with a wide variety of spices, medicinal plants, palm trees and many more. The park is a must visit travel destination in anyone’s list. The mosaic layout of flowers in the bed of green grass and trees, makes the garden one of the most remarkable attractions in Sri Lanka. This place is truly a paradise of tropical greenery.
Located approximately 39 km from Kandy, this is a nursery and a breeding ground for orphaned Asian wild elephants, accommodating the largest herd of captive elephants in the world. Being an iconic tourist attraction in Sri Lanka, you can view or experience the daily routine and care provided to elephants, including bathing in the river, milk and fruit feeding for elephant calves and others.
Being a historic forest reserve, this contains a dense forest with a variety of plant species and a famous birdwatching site. Designated as a sanctuary containing a variety of flora and fauna the forest has a great educational and recreational value. The forest reserve is also with religious importance as there are 3 Buddhist monasteries.
At a distance of 25 km from Kandy this is a biodiversity complex and a fascinating architectural design of the first mulit-religious centre in the country.
